New side widget– No, I am not selling out!!

You may have noticed a new side widget that says “Official blog of “MOON Organics”.

Allow me to explain…..

I am not selling out to commercialism and I am not getting paid to put that link on my site.

When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, I took a long hard look at my life.  Was I eating healthy?  Was I acting healthy?  Were the products I was using good for me?

One thing I looked at was my personal care products:  things like shampoo, make-up, and lotions.  The average woman uses 12 products on her body before heading out the door (the average man 9).  When I looked at the products I was using, I found that all of them contained parabens, chemicals and petroleum products.

Parabens (and her sisters, methyl-,ethyl-proryl-, and butyl-among others) have been found in breast cancer tumors and have been proven to be absorbed through the skin.  You will find paraben products in virtually every cosmetic and personal care product on the store shelf.  While it all depends on who you listen to (the cosmetic manufacturers or the scientists) parabens are probably in the list of “should avoid it if you can” substances.

The products you apply to your skin will get absorbed into your bloodstream and get distributed to your organs.  (This is how “transdermal medication” works….think nicotine patch) The unsafe statistics are astounding.

After reading about these additives and their possible links to cancer and other illnesses, I decided to start making my own products with natural, whole, organic, ingredients.  I wanted the products to not only be healthy, but I needed them to work well too. (I battle dry skin, wrinkles, etc. as I am no “spring chicken”)  So I began making and re-making my own products, trying one recipe, then improving on it.  As I did, I realized that these products worked better than the commercial products with all the chemicals that I was using before.

I felt really good that I wasn’t putting harmful substances into my “already poisoned” system, and I was glad that I didn’t have to spend a ton of money on big name “organic” products that said they were “natural” but had hidden ingredients that weren’t.
Having 2 teen daughters I started making things for them to use as well.  One of their favorites is my 100% natural eye make-up remover and eye lash conditioner with vitamin E and apricot kernel oil.  They loved it!  And soon, their friends started to borrow some.  Pretty soon, their friends started asking for some.

So I thought, “Why not make my recipes and share them with everyone?”

And that is what I am in the process of doing.  M.O.O.N. stands for “Made Out Of Nature”.  All products are made from 100% natural ingredients using organic ingredients whenever possible.

I am very excited to work at something that I am passionate about.  My goal is to provide women (and men, eventually) with many products that are natural, safe, effective, and inexpensive.

I am also committed to giving back, and I am in the process of searching for a charity to sponsor.  (I am very picky when it comes to choosing a charity…)

This newest venture is just another way I am continuing my mission to give people options to live a healthier and happier life.

Please stay tuned!!

  1. I think it’s great that you do organic even with cosmetics. I didn’t think about that far. My mom has always been all about organic food. I really appreciate it now that I have kids. It’s wonderful that you work towards your passion! Inspiring! I love that you’re trying to provide women with products that are natural, safe and even inexpensive. Super!

    • I was really inspired by my friend whose last name was Moon. She lost her battle with breast cancer in December and was 42 years old. I can hear her telling me to help women avoid this disease and be healthy in general.

Thanks for your kind words Kaho!

  2. All the best with your new endeavour!

  3. This is great news! I want to be a customer!

  4. I also wanted to ask a specific question about Brazillian blowouts or salons that are using keratin to straighten hair? I hear that there are harmful chemicals in these…..would you have more insight? It’s just that my family members are going for these but I wonder if then their scalp with absorb these unhealthy chemicals. Their hair looks wonderful after the salon treatment but I can’t help but worry about the long term effects.

    • You must be psychic! I am gathering information to do a post on Brazilian Blowouts. There are many chemicals involved in the process, and some are very dangerous. One is formaldehyde. You might recognize this as the liquid that preserves that frog in biology class. It is a major carcinogen and considered hazardous.
Here is one article from the US Dept of Labor for you to read:
I will dive in a bit deeper in the post.
Thanks for your question and your nice comment!
